Villa Hügel

The Villa Hügel in the south of Essen is idyllically located above Lake Baldeney. As the former ancestral home of the Krupp family, the villa is one of the most prominent places of interest in the Ruhr area and is a key attraction on the Route of Industrial Heritage.

Lake Baldeneysee

The reservoir which was completed in 1933 as Essen's recreation area offers many leisure and sports facilites. The fully developed circular path around the sea offers bikers, skaters and pedestrians a lot of space. On the water many canoeists as well as sailers and rowers can be seen. The White Fleet invites you for a tour on the reservoir and numerous restaurants indulge you with snacks.

Zeche Zollverein

For many visitors this is the highlight of their city break to the Ruhr Area: Zollverein was once renowned as the most beautiful colliery in the world, and is now the most famous tourist attraction of the Ruhr metropolis, and is also a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
