In recent years, various concepts for more versatile information systems architectures have emerged.
They frequently foster the integration of applications or components along business processes.
In order to take advantage of these architectures, it is required to design corresponding conceptual models.
Enterprise models are especially suited for this purpose, since they allow for integrated conceptual representations of processes, information, resources,
goals etc. of business firms or public organizations. They promote the design of information systems architectures that are in line with an organisation's long-term strategy
and that are tightly integrated with its business processes.
